Emma’s Blog

Ramblings and Randomness

I was bored and so decided to make a new site, hosted by Awardspace. It’s a really good host so I thought I’d have another go at making a website without using a CMS. Hopefully something will come of it, but it still needs a lot of work.

http://neon-skies.awardspace.com/ is my new site. Please have a look and leave a comment telling me what you think, It’d mean a lot!

School finished for summer today and it was such a great feeling that I will be in my last year at school and we’ve all got 6 nice long weeks stretched out ahead of us… pity the weather’s crap, but you can’t have it all :/

A couple of friends and I went to see Mamma Mia afterwards, and I thought it was great; a bit cheesy but that’s all part of it. I was surprised at how good the singing from the actors was to be honest. Meryl Streep is a fantastic actress and I think the casting people did a great job there. The atmosphere in the cinema was really good too, everyone was singing to the songs (apart from one of my friends who was really bored ;) ) and clapping too.

I’d recommend it to anyone who enjoys musicals and girly films, and obviously ABBA, because all the songs in it are from the band :)

Have a good weekend everyone!

Well, not the end of the internet per se, but I’ve recently read in a local newspaper that domain name suffixes (.com .net etc.) will be able to become anything the website owner wishes, as ICANN is expanding all top-level names in a bid to make more money. I personally don’t think this is a very good idea. Yes, it makes the domain names much less restricted and you can have anything you like, but it makes things much harder to remember and people could go mad with them and invent really stupid names. If in the future I’ll ever purchase a domain name, I’ll probably stick to .com or .co.uk, they’re simple. Easy. At the moment it’ll cost something in the 6-figure American dollar range, according to this article per application to get a domain suffix of your choosing, but won’t be available until 2009.

What are your views on this?

I was on the HMV website before having a look at some of the offers they had in the sale, and spotted the Kaiser Chiefs albums and The Wombats album. I was going to buy them with a card I had but found that you can’t redeem money from gift cards on the site; you can only do it in store. Dammit.

I still signed up to the site anyway, in case I’ll ever want to order stuff from there in the future. I’m gonna buy the Kaiser Chief’s Employment and Yours Truly, Angry Mob albums, and The Wombats A Guide to Love, Loss and Desperation on Tuesday when I go shopping. They should cost around £20 altogether if the sale’s still on, maybe slightly over. Should be good :)

I have work experience starting tomorrow and I’m slightly nervous about it; meeting new people, new environment completely different from school etc. but it will hopefully be a really good experience for me. I start at half 9, so I’ll get a lie-in, usually I get up at half 7 for school but I can probably get away with getting up at quarter past 8 this week. I only work four days too, so Friday I can rest and have a break :P

Yep, the title says it all. I was having a look at random websites and one had a link to the world’s hardest game. I was extremely bored and so I was inclined to see what it was, and had a go. I must have died about 15 times in the first minute on the first level alone and thought “bollocks to it” and closed the window. It really is impossibly hard. Here’s the website with the game:

Tell uConverses how well you did if you ever play it! Good luck, lol.

In other news, I got some fake Converse. They look exactly like the real ones (in the picture) only without the Converse brand logo, and are a size 8 and for men but meh… I liked them, so I got them. For £6 they were a bargain so I wasn’t gonna pass up that chance :D
